Intro to Italy & Question of the Day

We made it to Pisa, Italy!

Our shuttle to Florence picked us up and took a special detour for us to see the Leaning Tower.

That’s our morning so far, it’s terribly hot here, and we’re all irritably jet-lagged, so maybe more later tonight!

QOTD: Why was the Tower of Pisa constructed?

(Answer tomorrow 🙂 )

  1. Remember in europe, they say “wee-fee”, not “wi-fi”. 🙂 I am dreaming of all the yummy pastas you guys will get to enjoy!

  2. I’ve been to Pisa a few times now, and every time I go I enjoy it a little bit more. What I love about Pisa is that it seems that almost EVERY tourist goes there to see the tower because “you have to go see the tower” (and then you can file that away in the part of your brain that is “things you’ve done because you had to see them”). If you don’t see them then when you get back home you have to stomach the borderline intolerable question from people “Buh?! You DIDN’T see the BLAH BLAH BLAH?? Omg…” Regardless, it is a really neat structure and the church next to it is beautiful on the inside. Watching the throngs of tourists gawk at the tower and pretend to hold it up in pictures may be the most interesting sight of all.

Also it’s amazing to think that if the architect of the leaning tower hadn’t screwed up a calculation about the foundation like 900 years ago, almost no one would know about Pisa today.
